Renouf Mediation

Renouf Mediation

Meet Terry Renouf

As mediator, managing and senior partner of a substantial legal practice I have undertaken a career in dispute resolution from qualification.  I now bring that experience to bear when assisting parties who wish to find a settlement that is more timely, less expensive and offers wider options and outcomes than a Court imposed solution. I have mediated in disputes involving property, construction (domestic and commercial), financial services and pensions and many other types of civil, commercial and tortious disputes.

I have mediated successfully both "in person" and "Online". The latter affords mediators the opportunity to build rapport and understand a party's case at an earlier stage of a mediation to the benefit of those clients. Mediation has changed and clients confirm that I have the skills to blend the benefits and options available from either type of mediation and to the "hybrid" forms of mediation that will follow Covid.

Mediating "online"

I am a Panel Mediator for CEDR for civil and commercial disputes and for clinical negligence. I also assist as a conciliator on a number of schemes for consumers.

I am, since 2017, a Civil Mediation Council Registered Mediator and since 2020 a Director of that organisation. I am pleased to support the development of mediation through that charity.

I undertake Community Mediations with Mediation Surrey.

I am a Trustee of the Education and Training Trust of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

I assist the Managing General Agents Association and am a member of its Conduct and Ethics Committee.

Why Renouf?

Litigation is on no-one’s “bucket list”; it places demands on business and commerce and on the lives of those involved in it whether as parties or witnesses. My experience as mediator, as both managing and senior partner of one of the UK’s leading litigation practices and as one of the few solicitors in the UK to be afforded the accolade of “senior statesman” by Chambers and Partners means that I bring a unique set of skills and experience to the mediation market place. My career has included handling cases, managing client relationships and staff but also with the broader experience of running and leading a business.

Litigation can provide finality for the client but it outsources the decision to the Judge or Arbitrator: it is rarely efficient or cost effective; it will not offer the breadth of solutions that mediation offers.  The skills that I bring and experience as mediator and litigator mean that I can help parties involved in disputes achieve better outcomes, sooner.
